vectors below are derived using FREE tools as described in the 'FREE
Creative CNC Solution' eBook, available in the 'Tutorials' area. When high resolution or fine control is of prime importance, HyCAD is the recommended option. HyCAD creates 'centerline' or 'edge-detect' vectors with very even 'node' distribution and high 'node' density. It's an effective tool to join polylines, apply scaling and edit in a true 2D CAD environment. If vectors are destined for 'load and code' usage, InkScape can be a useful option. Accurate scaling of output requires source images of 90 DPI resolution. InkScape generates 'edge-detect' vectors only, so it may not suit all sources or applications. High 'node' counts can raise issues with successful export to .DXF. The FREE CamBam beta will convert or process InkScape .DXF R13 output directly. Where vectors will be the basis for CNC_Toolkit spline-projection or other manipulations, WinTopo is the best option. WinTopo generates 'centerline' and 'edge-detect' vectors. 'Node' counts can be optimised. Based on identical source material, WinTopo vectors have far fewer nodes then HyCAD vectorisations and at least 50% fewer nodes than InkScape vectorisations .'Node' count has great impact on manipulation and processing in more advanced applications. |
